Having signed off one project for Travelodge in Dagenham, national property and construction consultancy Wakemans is underway with a second, new-build hotel as part of a wider regeneration initiative.

Wakemans was appointed as tenant’s agent on both schemes, which have a collective value of £10million.

Wakemans Senior Associate Director Nigel Himpson said: “Given its proximity to East and Central London and excellent road and Tube links, Dagenham is a prime location for the development of quality, low cost accommodation.  We are delighted to be supporting Travelodge as it enhances its presence in this part of Outer London.”

The London Dagenham Travelodge represents a development cost of £5million. The 77-room hotel, which offers a Bar Café and on-site parking, is located close to the purpose-built London East Leisure Park, enjoys easy access from the A13 and is handy for London City Airport, Docklands and the City.

Built to the BREEAM ‘Very Good’ standard, the London Dagenham Travelodge features a ground floor reception and Bar Café serving breakfast and evening meals with rooms on the three upper floors. The development also includes a third party ground floor retail unit. The hotel has been styled in Travelodge’s new contemporary brand design, which has been created by leisure and business customers.

Wakemans is currently on site with a second new-build hotel on a brownfield site in Dagenham’s Rainham Road South. With a development value of £5million, the London Dagenham East Travelodge offers 78 rooms across four floors. It is part of a bigger scheme incorporating ground floor retail space, a drive-through coffee shop and car parking.

Situated adjacent to a new Sainsbury’s supermarket and Marston’s pub/restaurant The Pipe Major and directly opposite Dagenham East Tube station, the hotel is a welcome addition to the redevelopment zone. Formerly home to pharmaceutical company Sanofi’s manufacturing facilities, the 1.3 acre site is part of the gateway to the larger Londoneast-uk Business and Technical Park site.

Contractor Barnes Construction is currently on site and the London Dagenham East Travelodge is scheduled for completion in September 2019.

Tony O’Brien, UK Property Director for Travelodge, said: “We consider East London to be a key growth area for Travelodge, and the development of a second hotel in Dagenham, and the third in the borough of Dagenham & Barking, is testament to the area’s growing economy.  The development of Travelodge Dagenham East continues our strategy of providing travellers on a budget with easy, fast connections to London whilst offering them out-of-London room prices and quality accommodation.”

Market leading cloud-based software providers for automotive logistics, Car Delivery Network (CDN), has launched a new vinDISPATCH App to support their well-established online Delivery Portal.

The App is available on Apple and Android, providing the same detailed information to dealers as the Delivery Portal website. It enables dealers to access real-time information direct from vehicle delivery drivers relating to inbounding vehicles, as well as historical information about vehicles already delivered.

According to Derric Hicks, CDN General Manager North America, CDN has been investing considerable effort in developing the product at the behest of customers.

“The vinDISPATCH Delivery Portal App now enables key people within the dealership, such as porters and lot personnel, who may not have access to a desktop computer, to be notified when vehicles are ON THE WAY. Sales Managers and Inventory Control personnel can also receive 24/7 alerts and notifications on their phones advising that a load is ON THE WAY or has just been DELIVERED,” he says. “Several OEMs are keen to provide the Delivery Portal to their dealers to facilitate a higher level of service and communication. This, together with the development of our new App is just another example of how CDN goes above and beyond for our customers!”

Taiwan based transportation and logistics specialist Dimerco has been awarded *MTO (Multimodal Transport Operator) status in India, opening up new opportunities for growth for the company in the subcontinent.

Although well established in India, recognized as a Top 5 Freight Forwarder for inbound volume of Chennai Air Cargo Complex by AAI Cargo Logistics and Allied Services with a network of six owned offices and twelve partner offices, the MTO license will now enable Dimerco to provide extended services to shippers, moving cargo from any land point in India to and from any destination in the world, under a single Contract of Carriage.

Under the terms of India’s Multimodal Transportation Act, only those companies who are registered by the Director General of Shipping can carry out Multimodal Transportation, to protect the interests of shippers. Dimerco’s MTO accreditation demonstrates that it has the necessary expertise, infrastructure and financial status to undertake such Multimodal Transportation.

According to Mr. Edward Lin, CEO of Dimerco, the achievement of MTO status will benefit both customers and partner carriers.

He explains, “The manufacturing hubs in India, which contribute a major share of exports, are located deep in the hinterland and far away from the gateway ports. Therefore, the potential for multimodal transportation – including long and short hauls – is immense. As a Multimodal Transport Operator, Dimerco can now take responsibility for transporting cargo from one point to another, utilising more than one mode of transport, ensuring more efficient and cost-effective door to-door movement of goods for our customers.  We can also now work better with ocean carriers, since carriers do not handle shipments from offline/inland areas of India, so for Dimerco MTO recognition is key for our business development and carrier relationships in India.”

The MTO certification has not only enabled Dimerco to provide more extensive multimodal services to customers, but has also gained recognition for the company within the international forwarding community as approved by the Indian government for multimodal transport operations.
