BanaBay Bananas are Par for the Course!
Golfers at a charity match put their faith in banana power to get them around the course in support of Prostate Cancer UK, munching their way through several boxfuls of the sportsman’s favourite energy snack to tackle 18 holes on a chilly Autumn day.
Shropshire’s grand Astbury Hall was the venue where current and former professional footballers including ex-Villa star Lee Hendrie and striker Darius Vassell, along with invited guests, gathered for the FootieBugs Golf Classic, sponsored by BanaBay bananas.
Donations are still coming in but the Golf day has put FootieBugs well on its way to reaching its target of raising £10,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.
BanaBay MD Mark O’Sullivan, who acquitted himself well on the fairway, said: “We are very proud to support such an excellent cause and work in partnership with FootieBugs and Technical Director Lee Hendrie to help keep kids active and healthy with football skills and advice on nutrition. We are also delighted at the response to our bananas. Plenty of golfers claimed there must be something in the fruit to keep them going and even commented that these were the best bananas they’d ever tasted.”
A great day was had by all and team ‘The Good The Bad and The Ugly’ won first place, 2nd prize went to Team Aiders and 3rd to Kingsy’s Italian Job.
The raffle which included vouchers to spend at Simpsons and the Marriot Hotel raised £300.
After dinner speeches included an address from Prostate Cancer UK, to raise awareness of a condition that could affect 1 in 8 men at one point in their lives, and guests also enjoyed thoughts from K K Downing of heavy metal band Judas Priest, who designed the course at Astbury Hall.
