The Yorkshire brand is riding high following a £30 million injection as part of the campaign ‘Welcome to Yorkshire’.  Now proud men of the county can literally wear their hearts on their sleeves with a suit cut from Yorkshire cloth, put together by Leeds-based Suit the City.

Developed by textile maker J H Clissold, the fine Australian Merino wool cloth features the word Yorkshire incorporated in the pinstripe and is proving popular with local businessmen keen to pay a subtle tribute to their heritage.

Gordon Inglis from made-to-measure specialists Suit the City is busy with requests to be measured up for these unashamedly partisan threads and among his client list are several prominent Yorkshiremen including Mr. Yorkshire himself Canon Keith Madeley.

Gordon says:  “Yorkshire is experiencing a major resurgence at the moment and although currently defined by its tea, cricket team and pudding, it’s great that the cloth mills of the past are coming to the fore again to give Yorkshiremen the chance to ‘earn their stripes’ with a suit made from this inspiring new fabric.”

Leading British KBB manufacturer Mereway has won a sustainable business award and been shortlisted in two categories for another prestigious regional business award.

Mereway were winners in the Made in the Midlands awards, run by Insider magazine, taking the top slot in the Sustainable Manufacturer of the Year category. The award was presented in front of more than 200 of the region’s top manufacturers and Mereway will now go forward to compete against other regional winners at the national Made in the UK Awards.

The Judges said that Mereway’s award submission was well thought out and well-presented and that what the company is doing in terms of  reducing CO2 and other emissions, cutting waste, recycling and staff training is “a game changer”.

TheBusinessDesk.com’s West Midlands Business Masters Awards have also shortlisted Mereway in two categories – Manufacturer (SME) and Employer of the Year. Mereway recently congratulated 11 employees on achieving 20 years of service, and the company has continued to go from strength to strength as they have expanded their range and moved into the bathroom and most recently the bedroom markets.

Marketing Director Graham Jones says Mereway are pleased and proud to be recognised for their achievements with these awards.

The Made in the UK Awards will be held in Liverpool in July and The Masters of Business Awards will be announced on the 18th of June.
